Rejuran (PN Skin Booster)

The word booster covers several different injections, and the one people most often hear about for repair and sensitive skin is a polynucleotide product. This page explains how it differs from hyaluronic boosters and collagen stimulators, and which concerns it may help.

How it works

Rejuran uses polynucleotides (PN), which are short chains of DNA fragments derived from salmon. They are injected into the upper skin layers in many tiny points. The fragments are thought to support fibroblasts, the cells that produce collagen, and to help the skin's own repair processes while also holding some water. The effect builds over a series of sessions rather than at once, and is described as an improvement in texture, thickness and resilience rather than in shape. Evidence is still developing, and results vary by person and by the starting condition of the skin.

Who it may suit

  • Thin, fragile or easily irritated skin that looks tired
  • Shallow acne scars and uneven texture, as part of a broader plan
  • Fine lines, including delicate areas such as around the eyes and neck
  • Skin affected by sun exposure or repeated procedures that needs support

The treatment day

  1. Skin review. The doctor checks skin thickness, scarring, sensitivity, allergies (including to fish products) and current medications.
  2. Numbing. A topical anesthetic sits on the skin for a while first, since several small injections follow.
  3. Micro-injections. The product is placed across the area in many small, shallow injections, sometimes using a fine needle on thin areas.
  4. Calming. The area is cleaned, a soothing product goes on, and sunscreen finishes the visit.

Aftercare

  • Avoid heavy make-up until the small injection points close
  • Keep the skin clean and moisturized, and use sunscreen
  • Skip saunas, strenuous exercise and peeling products for a few days
  • Expect small bumps for a day or two, which tend to flatten on their own

Things to know first

  • Small bumps, redness, bruising and tenderness are common after a session
  • Because the source is salmon, people with fish allergy should say so before treatment
  • Pregnancy, breastfeeding, an active infection, or inflammatory skin disease at the site are reasons to hold off
  • Benefits build over several sessions and may be subtle for people with healthy skin
  • It does not add volume, lift sagging skin or fill folds

How Rejuran compares with nearby options

The clearest contrast is with a hyaluronic acid booster. A hyaluronic booster mainly adds hydration, so skin looks plumper and more luminous soon after. A polynucleotide booster is described as working on repair and quality, which people often notice more slowly and across a series. Someone with dry, dull skin may like the first; someone with thin, scarred or sensitized skin may be directed toward the second.

Against PDRN-labelled products, the family is related but the ingredient and preparation are not identical, and doctors may choose between them according to the area and the skin condition. Compared with a collagen stimulator such as PDLLA, polynucleotide boosters are gentler and have shorter downtime, but they are less likely to produce a firm change in thickness.

If hollowing, deep folds or sagging dominate, a booster is not the main tool. Fillers, stimulators or lifting devices are more relevant, and a booster may be added later for surface quality.

Rejuran (PN Skin Booster): common questions

How is it different from a hyaluronic booster?

A hyaluronic booster focuses on hydration and glow. A polynucleotide booster is aimed at repair and skin quality, usually over several sessions.

Is it good for acne scars?

It may help shallow scars and general texture. Deeper scars usually need other approaches.

Can I have it if I am allergic to fish?

Tell the doctor first. Because the ingredient comes from salmon, it may not be appropriate.

When will I see a difference?

Gradually, often after the second or third session. Results vary by person.
