How it works

Vbeam, made by Candela, is a pulsed dye laser at 595 nm. That wavelength is strongly absorbed by hemoglobin, so the pulse heats small blood vessels and causes them to close, after which the body clears them. The device pairs the light with a cooling burst of cryogen at the surface to protect the skin. Pulse duration can be adjusted: shorter pulses can bruise temporarily, while longer ones are gentler.
